.....07/09/2009.....Jackson County does not qualify for individual assistance to residents:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jackson County's debris consolidation site at Southern Illinois Airport
closed on Friday, July 3 as planned. The site was open to the public
since May 21, taking in 3,400 loads and a total of 42,000 cubic yards.
Jackson County spent around $60,000 providing this site as a service to
residents.
Jackson County has no definitive plans to re-open the site at this time.
Residents and tree services can get on a call-back list in case Jackson
County decides to re-open the site on a limited basis. To be placed on
the list, please call 618/684-3143, ext. 128.
Otherwise, residents of unincorporated Jackson County are asked to
manage tree debris on the site where it is generated, either by
controlled burning, cutting for firewood, or mulching. No permit from
the State or County is needed to manage tree debris in this manner. It
is a good idea to contact your fire department or fire protection
district and alert them of your activities prior to burning. No burning
of demolition materials or other wastes is allowed!
