Illinois officials launch clearinghouse website for flood relief. A number of Illinois agencies have come together to help navigate the process of getting their lives back together after record floods.  Illinois.gov/2019floods. 

06-07-2019  An update on the lock repair on the Big Muddy Levee in Oakwood Bottoms.  The Levee District with State Resources are backfilling the lock to seal off the water.  It should be sealed off by late afternoon.  The Levee has NOT been breached.  Stay tuned for further updates.

06-08-2019  Update for ongoing flood projects:  Double locks at Big Muddy Levee in Oakwood Bottoms were finished being sealed yesterday evening.  Ongoing efforts to build-up and repair Little Levee Road and Smokey Road continues this morning.

06-09-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  No new issues from Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower, Village of Gorham or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Stay alert for further updates.

06-10-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  The Grand Tower Levee District has made a request for Ten 10" pumps to be delivered to Munz Road on the Big Muddy Levee.  This morning they have Three on the ground with rock and sandbags as they prep the site.  Ongoing deliveries of rock are being placed on Little Levee Road to help continue stabilizing the area.  No issues have been found overnight from the Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Stay alert for further updates.

06-11-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  Grand Tower Levee District has Five pumps running on the Big Muddy Levee.  Three more pumps are on the ground being prepped for use.  Degonia Township and Jackson County Highway has completed the rock raising project on Little Levee Road allowing the water to stabilize the sand boils.  No levee issues have been reported this morning from Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff levee district.

06-12-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  Work is continuing on the Big Muddy Levee Pump Project to get all Ten Pumps on the ground and in operational mode.  1500 Filled Sandbags were delivered to the project late yesterday afternoon to support the pump project.  No levee issues were reported overnight from the Grand Tower Levee District, City Of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.

06-17-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  No issues were reported overnight from Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing.  I received 1.5" of rain yesterday afternoon north of Murphysboro.  All pumps in the County are running and the river is continuing to fall.

Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing. All pumps in Jackson County are moving water and the rivers continue to fall despite the daily pop up thundershowers.

Stay alert this afternoon for the increasing chances of severe weather.

06-22-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  No issues from overnight have been reported from Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing.  I received 2.55" of rain in the last 24 Hours.  2" in less than an hour yesterday afternoon.  All the pumps are moving water but the rivers are slowing their fall due to increased heavy rainfall.

06-23-2019  Update on ongoing flooding:  No issues were reported from the Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing. All pumps in the County are running but struggling to stay ahead of the large amounts of rain we have received.  Stay alert this afternoon for the chance of severe storms and more heavy rains.

06-24-2019  Daily update on Flood 2019:  No issues were reported from overnight for Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District.  Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing.  Two more 10" pumps were delivered to the Big Muddy Levee Pump Project to help reduce the amount of internal water from heavy rains.  All other pumps are running in the County and the rivers are forecast to take a slight rise.

06-25-2019  Daily update on Flood 2019:  No issues were reported from overnight for Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District. Levee patrols and maintenance are ongoing.  The Two new pumps at the Big Muddy Levee Pump Project are operational.  All pumps in the County are running and the Rivers are forecast to crest on Thursday.

Levee patrols and maintenance have been scaled back by the Corps of Engineers. All pumps in the County are running and the rivers are continuing to fall at a steady rate.

07-09-2019  Update on Flood 2019:  No issues were reported from overnight for Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District. Highway 3 at Cora is scheduled to reopen by Noon today.  Grand Tower Levee District is anticipating opening a couple gates this evening, while opening the double gate later in the week.  This will allow a majority of the seep water back into the river.  All pumps in the County are running and the rivers are continuing to fall.

07-10-2019  Update on Flood 2019:  No issues were reported from overnight for Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District. Highway 3 at Cora was opened around Noon yesterday. We still have several County roads under water, so continue to remain cautious. All the pumps in the County are running and the rivers are continuing to fall.

07-12-2019  Update on Flood 2019:  No issues were reported from overnight for Grand Tower Levee District, City of Grand Tower or Degonia-Fountain Bluff Levee District. All pumps in the County are running and the rivers are continuing to fall.  The Big Muddy River has fell below flood stage in Murphysboro. This is the first time in 125 days. The Mississippi River has fell below moderate flood stage in Chester. This is the first time since March 25. This will be the last update as the rivers are moving back towards their banks.
